This adventurous bush and beach package combines three destinations, an amazing safari experience in Liwonde National Park, an uninhabited island and a bustling lakeshore village. Make sure you remember your camera for the game drives and boat safaris, as this national park hosts the Big 5!
Following your safari you'll enjoy two nights off the grid staying in an eco-camp set right on the beach of Domwe Island where hiking, kayaking and snorkelling can be enjoyed. Enjoy your last night back on the mainland in Cape Maclear village with the best sunsets Malawi has to offer! .
This budget-friendly holiday will have you enjoying the best of both worlds - game drives and boat safaris in the bush before heading to the beach for some snorkelling, swimming, hiking, kayaking or maybe even scuba diving.
You’ll have an early departure today as we embark on a 4 hour journey to Liwonde National Park from Lilongwe. This trip can also start in Blantyre where the first leg of the journey will be 2.5 hours. You’ll arrive in time for lunch before your first afternoon game activity.
Accommodation for the first three nights will be at Kutchire Lodge in an ensuite room on a full board basis.
With ensuite chalets, unique rustic tree houses and a fantastic swimming pool this Malawian owned and run safari lodge offers accommodation, all meals and game viewing activities. Both game drives and boat safaris are included - a total of six activities during your stay.
After your final morning game activity and breakfast, you’ll start your 3 hour journey to Cape Maclear and the islands.
At 3pm you’ll be on the afternoon boat to Domwe Island camp - approx 45 minute boat journey through the beautiful Lake Malawi National Park. You’ll be staying for two nights in a safari tent (shared bathrooms) on a full board basis with kayaking and snorkelling included.
Domwe camp offers basic safari tents, camping and a communal dining/hangout area all set on a beautiful boulder-strung small beach. This island offers a back-to-nature feel. It offers some challenging hikes up the hillside but with the most incredible views from the top making it worth the effort
In the afternoon, you’ll depart Domwe Island for the trip back to the mainland where you’ll have your last night in Cape Maclear. Accommodation will be at Thumbi View Lodge, a sociable friendly lodge situated on the shores of Lake Malawi with a pool, bar and restaurant. You’ll be staying in an ensuite courtyard room on a bed and breakfast rate.
This will give you the perfect opportunity to buy those last souvenirs or perhaps enjoy a relaxing catamaran trip to watch the sunset over the lake. Additional nights can be added for those wishing to spend more time in this bustling beach community.
Today we depart Cape Maclear for the 4 hour journey back to Lilongwe or Blantyre where your trip ends.
